Equality and Equity are not the same (pun intended) and where employees use to demand equality, they are now also understanding the importance of creating an equitable work environment. Nearly 80% of workers report that they want to work for a company that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). In the past couple of years, a focus on a more equitable workplace has become more important for many organizations and 40% of the workers in the survey cited above report their company has made DEIB more of a priority.

Workplace equity begins in many companies by closing racial and gender gaps in employee pay and advancement. But equity also looks at the policies, practices and programs that your organization upholds at the systems, structural and people level. By conducting an equity analysis within your organization, you begin to uncover possible disparities in the distribution or allocation of resources, how you provide opportunities, and who you invite to participate in your programs. If your goal is to create a level playing field, finding ways to uncover inequities is where you can start.

This course is only $249

Let’s take a look inside

Equity in the workplace hinges on equality, openness, and belonging. And even diverse workplaces can still struggle to create a business that is completely free of bias and discrimination. In this certificate program you will learn how to utilize an equity assessment/lens to root out causes of inequities and to identify strategies to minimize them. You will also learn and be provided with the tools to set SMARTIE goals and manage your planned pathway. can help you be more intentionally inclusive.

As we recognize that not all employees are starting from the same starting line, and not all organizational policies and programs were built with equity in mind, we will utilize the employee lifecycle, from recruitment to performance monitoring and management, to highlight how unintentional inequities can creep in at work.

The “ENSURING EQUITY IN THE WORKPLACE” certificate program is developed and validated by university professionals trained at Harvard University,UC Berkeley, UC Davis and University of Central Missouri. The “Ensuring Equity in the Workplace” certificate requirements include:

TOPICS WE’LL EXPLORE ARE:

Hidden Biases and performance management:

Our biases are the result of our brain operating in efficiency mode. You’ll learn about the operations of the 2 systems of the brain and how our fast brain, which we operate in 90%+ of the time is intuitive and reactionary. You’ll learn how to move into using your slow brain, which is more intentional and questioning of our thoughts and beliefs about others.

5 principles of equity in the workplace:

‘Equality and Equity are not the same’. Although they might work hand in hand, they are not synonymous. Equity is about fairness. We’ll explore the principles at work that uphold organizational fairness indicators and help to create inclusive actions and a feeling of belonging.

  • Inclusion
  • Equal opportunity
  • Fairness
  • Transparency
  • Accountability

Equity theory and employee motivation

Equity theory is an essential tool for understanding employee motivation. In the 1960s, John Stacey Adams developed a theory to explain why employees’ beliefs about job equity in the workplace are crucial for organizational performance.

Adams’ Equity Theory posits that people are motivated to work based on their pay and perception of how well they are paid compared to others. This perceived fairness is essential for maintaining high levels of motivation and performance. Learn the theory and application of ensuring equity in the workplace.
